Toyota GR86 XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION Redmond – Clear bra PPF paint protection film installation At Seattle ClearBra in Redmond, Washington, we recently installed XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION PPF on a Toyota GR86. Our client dropped off his Toyota immediately after delivery, opting for the new, smoother, ceramic-coated XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION PPF right away. He wanted the ease of effortless cleaning while benefiting from rock chip protection.
We discuss different options, such as Full Front or Full Front with Rockers, along with a few additional packages available on our website. Ultimately, he quickly decided to go with the ceramic-coated film instead of the previous generation, XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS.

Both films come with a 10-year warranty and a self-healing surface, plus a lifetime workmanship warranty through Seattle ClearBra.
XPEL Paint Protection Film
The benefits of full coverage PPF extend beyond simply protecting all panels from scratches and rock chips—it also eliminates the need to polish the paint.
XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS features a self-healing surface, which means minor abrasions from washing equipment, careless handling, or items rubbing against the surface can be repaired with heat. This could be from warm weather or manually using a heat gun.
However, while XPEL PPF offers excellent protection, it’s not indestructible. Deliberate scratches with sharp objects, such as keying the vehicle, can exceed the film’s healing capabilities. The good news is that XPEL ULTIMATE and XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION PPF act as a barrier, preventing damage to the vehicle’s paint.
Additionally, pinstriping—caused by tree branches rubbing against the vehicle while off-roading—will often self-heal, saving time that would otherwise be spent polishing out fine scratches.
Washing Your Toyota GR86
When it’s time to wash your Toyota GR86 or any vehicle with XPEL PPF, you can follow the same process as you would for a regular car wash. This includes using a brushed drive-thru wash, a touchless car wash, or hand washing.
At Seattle ClearBra, we always recommend hand washing to minimize the risk of damage, but it’s not required. However, if you have XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION PPF, XPEL FUSION PLUS ceramic coating, or any other ceramic coating, hand washing is highly recommended, and automated washes should be avoided.
The reason is that harsh chemicals in automated washes can degrade ceramic coatings, shortening their lifespan and reducing their effectiveness. To extend the life of your ceramic coating, we recommend using XPEL BOOST, which helps maintain the coating’s hydrophobic properties after washing.
XPEL Window Tinting
While his Toyota GR86 was at our Redmond, Washington shop, our client also opted for XPEL PRIME XR window tint, which significantly reduces infrared heat and provides 99% UV rejection.
For even greater heat rejection, XPEL PRIME XR PLUS is available.
We also offer XPEL PRIME CS, a carbon-based color-stable window tint that provides a sleek, tinted look but with minimal infrared heat rejection. This is a more budget-friendly option for customers who want tinted windows but are not concerned about heat reduction.

XPEL WINDSHIELD PROTECTION FILM
While windshield protection film was not a focus for this Toyota GR86 installation, it’s an excellent option for preventing sandblasting, rock chips, and scratches—common issues when driving around the Greater Seattle region and mountain passes.
XPEL WINDSHIELD PROTECTION FILM acts as a sacrificial layer, absorbing impacts that would otherwise damage the windshield. Over time, the film can be replaced to maintain clear visibility and optimal protection.
XPEL Ceramic Coating
Since XPEL ULTIMATE FUSION PPF already includes XPEL FUSION PLUS ceramic coating, there was no need to add an additional ceramic coating service for this Toyota GR86.
Ceramic coatings are an excellent choice for those who hand wash their vehicle, as they enhance gloss, hydrophobicity, and UV protection.
However, if you frequently use drive-thru car washes and are debating between PPF or ceramic coating, we always recommend paint protection film first.
Why?
- Ceramic coatings last around 2 years, while PPF lasts 10+ years with a full 10-year XPEL warranty.
- PPF provides impact protection from rock chips, scratches, and road debris, whereas ceramic coatings only provide surface protection.
- Both XPEL PPF and ceramic coatings come with a lifetime installation warranty through Seattle ClearBra.
For customers looking to maximize their vehicle’s protection, a combination of PPF and ceramic coating offers the best of both worlds!
