Is Window Tinting Worth It?
One of the other benefits of window tint is a cooler interior in your vehicle through a window tint installation by Seattle ClearBra. There will be a lessened need for the use of air conditioning while you’re in the vehicle or the pre-condition system being used far less.
This leads to less consumption of gas or electricity, giving you further mileage range on warm days as you won’t need to run the air conditioning as much, or for as long as someone who opted not to go with the Xpel PRIME XR infrared UV rejecting films on their vehicle.
Important Considerations

Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y Window Tint
Out of all the Tesla models the Model Y and Model S is one of the most challenging to apply window tint on due to its large sunroof and the headliners proximity to the sunroof. The headliner being installed as it is, leaves no room to get the film applied under it to the edge of the sunroof.
To overcome this, we must take the headliner down a bit for the Model Y sunroof window tint option. Beyond simply being an increased cost involved, there’s no other issues or challenges with the Model Y over any of the other vehicle for our window tinting options at Seattle ClearBra vehicle protection services.
Tesla Model X front windshield is also a challenge but we here at Seattle ClearBra are up for and will do it for you unlike many other tint shops in the Greater Seattle Washington area.
Additional Recommendations
Most commonly, near all vehicles that typically come to us end up installing window tint on all windows of their vehicles, as this is where you get the most benefit. We always recommend 70% VLT Xpel PRIME XR on the front windshield as this will not at all limit your view in any way but still gives you a good deal of infrared heat rejection and 99+% UV rejection. Front side windows should be no darker than 30% to keep it legal.
Rear windows and sunroof can have as dark of a tint as you want down to what’s called 5% which is commonly referred to as limo tint in the window tinting industry. The problem with 5% window tint is its very difficult to see out of at night.
The solution to this if you want the privacy provided by a dark window tint, yet want to see out at night from your vehicle we recommend 20% which is a small compromise between the dark 5% view limiting tint and the lighter tint options available.
Window Tint Percentages
How window tint numbers work is the smaller the number the darker the film is. VLT stands for visual light transmission being the amount of light the film lets through when installed and is the standard name for the numbers used on the % scale. The lower the number the more infrared heat rejection the film offers up to a 88% heat rejection in the infrared spectrum.
- 80% – Virtually unnoticeable and see through
- 70% – Looks like a normal window and barely adds any shading
- 50% – Beginning to look a bit black but can still see in pretty easy
- 35% – starting to get difficult to see in the car especially on a rainy day
- 20% – Can generally only see in on certain angles on a sunny day
- 5% – Virtually can’t see into the car even in full sun
How Long Does Window Tinting in Seattle Take to Cure?
There will near always be some remaining water bubbles under the window tint when completed. Depending on the climate, quality of the job, weather conditions, and curing process it can take anywhere between four and thirty days. To get a better idea of the curing length, ask your Seattle window tint installation garage and they’ll be able to give you the most accurate timeline.
Keep in mind that the humid, wet climate in Seattle means that it could take longer for the window tint to cure. As long as you know what to expect, there shouldn’t be any issues.

Seattle ClearBra offers quality window tinting services using Xpel PRIME XR tint from Xpel. This is a lifetime warranty Nano ceramic series of window tint, designed to reject infrared heat up to 88%. We also offer a standard carbon series automotive window tint called Xpel PRIME CS. In addition, we offer a top performance infrared heat rejecting window tint Xpel PRIME XR PLUS.
Options range from 70% VLT to 5% VLT with the higher number being the lighter film and lower number being the darker. VLT stands for Visual Light Transmission. 5% is known as limo tint in the window tint industry and the higher 70% film is virtually see through. The 70% is generally used on front windshield as it does very little to change the look of the window or limit the view from in or outside of the windows where applied.
70% VLT is legal in Washington State for the front windshield and about 24% is the legal limit for the front side windows.

- 70% – Has a very slight tint and almost unnoticeable. Used on front windshields to keep it legal or if you don’t want a tinted look but want the infrared and UV rejection offered by a Nano ceramic tint
- 55% – Is a bit of a tint and very easy to see in and out regardless of day or night
- 30% – Legal for the front side windows and getting towards the darker side
- 20% – Closely matches factory OEM tinted privacy glass that comes on the rear windows of vehicles
- 15% – Not legal on front side windows or windshield and is getting pretty dark
- 5% – This is referred to as limo tint and very hard to see in, and difficult to see out at night when no lights around
