The normal window tint customer typically starts off with a few different questions. Like, what type of window tint should I get? What shade of window tint should I get? And, what windows on my vehicle should I tint? Although it mostly comes down to preference, here are somethings to consider. If it is an SUV the back windows have factory tint, also known dyed glass, which provides privacy, no UV protection and no IR rejection. Which is why we always recommend getting an all around tint for the best heat rejection and UV protection. We get a wide range of requests for SUVs depending on the clients needs. A common one is 30% 0r 20% on the front two windows and then 70% on the rest of the windows. This gives the SUV a more uniformed look.
A sedan doesn’t have any factory tinted windows, so most of our clients will go 30% or 20% on the sides and rear. The lower the % the darker the film is. 70% meaning 70% of the light is coming through, 20% only 20% of the light is coming through.

Window Tint Percentages
How window tint numbers work is the smaller the number the darker the film is. VLT stands for visual light transmission being the amount of light the film lets through when installed and is the standard name for the numbers used on the % scale.
- 70% – Looks like a normal window and barely adds any shading
- 55% – Beginning to look a bit black but can still see in pretty easy
- 30% – starting to get difficult to see in the car especially on a rainy day
- 20% – Can generally only see in on certain angles on a sunny day
- 5% – Virtually can’t see into the car even in full sun

There will near always be some remaining water bubbles under the window tint when completed. Depending on the climate, quality of the job, weather conditions, and curing process it can take anywhere between four and thirty days. Keep in mind that the humid, wet climate in Seattle means that it could take longer for the window tint to cure. As long as you know what to expect, there shouldn’t be any issues.
Out of all the Tesla models the Model Y and Model S is one of the most challenging to apply window tint on due to its large sunroof and the headliners proximity to the sunroof. The headliner being installed as it is, leaves no room to get the film applied under it to the edge of the sunroof.
To overcome this, we must take the headliner down a bit for the Model Y sunroof window tint option. Beyond simply being an increased cost involved, there’s no other issues or challenges with the Model Y over any of the other vehicle for our window tinting options at Seattle ClearBra vehicle protection services.
